Swasthavritta (Social and Preventive Medicine)

The Department of Swasthavritta at NRI Institute of Ayurvedic Medical Sciences & Arnav Hospital focuses on the principles and practice of Social and Preventive Medicine, emphasizing health promotion at both individual and community levels. Rooted in Ayurveda, the department teaches a holistic approach to maintaining good health and preventing disease through lifestyle management, diet, behavior, and natural therapies like Naturopathy and Yoga.

Ayurveda emphasizes the importance of maintaining health through preventive measures, and Swasthavritta is the discipline that embodies this principle. It offers a comprehensive view of health that extends beyond curing diseases to fostering a balanced lifestyle. The department integrates Ayurvedic principles with modern scientific knowledge, Yogic practices, and Naturopathy, as recommended by the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM).

Holistic Health and Wellness

Swasthavritta is designed to promote complete wellness, addressing physical, mental, and spiritual health. It draws heavily on Yoga, which plays a crucial role in balancing the mind and body. The department emphasizes the importance of following a structured daily and seasonal routine, proper hygiene, and personal care practices. Students learn how to incorporate these practices into daily life, promoting a natural, healthy lifestyle for themselves and their patients.

The department provides undergraduate and postgraduate students with a well-rounded education that includes training in personal hygiene, preventive health, nutrition, and disease prevention. Practical training in Yoga and Naturopathy forms an integral part of the curriculum, equipping students with the skills needed to guide patients toward better health using holistic methods.

Comprehensive Training and Community Service

The scope of Swasthavritta extends beyond the classroom, as students are trained to serve the community by promoting health through Ayurveda, Yoga, and Naturopathy. They gain the skills to act as diet consultants, advising communities on nutritious food choices and guiding them on disease prevention measures for both communicable and non-communicable diseases. Students also learn to utilize Yoga therapy and Naturopathy to improve public health.

The department includes a dedicated Yoga Unit, where early morning Yogasanas (yoga postures) and Pranayama (breathing exercises) are conducted for patients and students. Additionally, diet charts and lifestyle recommendations are provided to patients based on their specific health conditions, helping them achieve balance through proper diet and therapeutic practices.

Regular workshops, seminars, and outreach programs on Naturopathy and Yoga are conducted to spread awareness about healthy living.

Swasthavritta Department Activities

NSS Participation: Faculty members regularly participate as guest lecturers in NSS camps, sharing insights on health and wellness with students and community members.

Community Health Initiatives: The department actively engages in community health programs, including health surveys, school health check-ups, and participation in national health campaigns like the Pulse Polio Programme. It also organizes Swasrnaprashan Shibirs to promote child immunity through Ayurvedic practices.

The ultimate goal is to contribute to the national vision of "Health for All" by fostering healthier communities through preventive care and holistic living.
